Michigan Inmates Hospitalized for Carbon Monoxide Exposure. How Leesfield & Partners has Represented Countless Florida Victims.

At least nine inmates at the Ionia County Jail in Michigan were hospitalized over the weekend after being exposed to carbon monoxide.

The incident happened Saturday around 12:22 a.m. Jail staff members were allegedly told by inmates that there was a “chemical smell” and inmates also reported “not feeling well,” according to reporting from The Daily News, a publication reporting on Montcalm and Ionia Counties.

The apparent cause, according to the publication, was a malfunction with a ventilation pipe on a boiler.

Four People Rescued from Water After Boat Capsized Over Labor Day Weekend in Miami, officials say.

At least four people were pulled from the water Sunday afternoon after their boat capsized near Haulover Inlet in Miami, according to reporting from local media.

All four were found sitting on the overturned hull of their 25-foot boat around 4 p.m. The boat was found nearly seven miles short of Haulover Inlet.

No Injuries were reported in this incident though Miami-Dade Fire Rescue teams have taken this as the opportunity to remind boaters to check the weather conditions before setting out on the water, according to reporting from The Miami Herald. Additionally, boaters should ensure they have a VHF radio on board that is turned to channel 16 — the quickest way to radio for help if in distress on the water.

Police: Deputy Put on Leave After Shooting in Orlando. What to Know.

A deputy with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has been put on a paid administrative leave after accidentally shooting an Orlando home invasion victim, according to media reporting.

As of Wednesday morning, the deputy has not been named and officials with the Florida Law Enforcement Division is investigating.

The shooting took place around 3 p.m. on Aug. 23 when a 911 caller reported a home invasion. The caller, a man in his 40s, told dispatchers that four people tried to break into his home and that he had fired shots at them. All four ran away before deputies arrived, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

Two Families Displaced Following Separate and Devastating Fires in Florida. What to Know.

At least two families tragically lost their homes following separate fires in Vero and Boynton Beaches over the weekend, according to local media.

The first fire broke out Saturday at a home near 21st Court in Vero Beach. At least seven people were displaced after the fire engulfed their home. Of the seven people, five are children.

Sunday morning in Boynton Beach, a family of three and their dogs were displaced after a fire started near NW 10th Court, a home in the Skylake neighborhood.

Neighbor angry over bus stop placement uses sprinklers on students with disabilities, police say.

Police say a man is facing charges after he sprayed students with disabilities using his sprinkler system during a dispute over a neighborhood bus stop in Ocala.

Antonio Roman, 61, was charged on Aug. 17 with four counts of stalking, two counts of battery on a disabled person and two counts of battery.

Since at least Aug. 8, 2024, police say Roman activated his sprinklers twice a day to “intentionally spray the family who lived next door,” officials with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office told Miami Herald reporters. This allegedly occurred specifically when two students with special needs were loaded and unloaded from the bus stop. Police told reporters that the father began wearing a swimsuit to “shield his children from Roman’s sprinklers.

Girl, 11, Hit by Car Near Bus Stop in Port St. Lucie. What to Know.

An 11-year-old girl has been hospitalized with critical injuries after she was hit by a car near a bus stop in Port St. Lucie Friday.

The crash happened before 8:40 a.m. near the intersection of SW Thornhill Drive and SW Gemini Lane, according to reporting from local media. A neighbor’s surveillance camera captured the moment the child attempted to cross the street on her way to her bus stop and was hit. The driver immediately stopped and called paramedics, according to the article.

The girl was airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in critical condition.

Surviving Fort Lauderdale Personal Watercraft Victim in Stable Condition, officials say.

One of two sisters involved in an Aug. 12 fatal personal watercraft crash in Fort Lauderdale’s Intracoastal Waterway is reportedly in stable condition, according to reporting from local news outlets.

Aviva Bracha Nisanov, 16, of New York, was rushed to Broward Medical Center in critical condition following the crash that killed her sister, 13-year-old Rachel Aliza Nisanov. The two with their parents, Rebbitzin Ora Nisanov and Rabbi Shlomo Nisanov, while the family was vacationing from their home in New York.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. near the 2800 block of Northeast 24th Court when the two crashed into a concrete dock.

Fire at North Miami Beach High-Rise Apartment Over the Weekend. What to Know.

Firefighters put out a blaze at a high-rise in North Miami Beach that caught fire overnight Saturday, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

Emergency responders were called out to the area just before 7 p.m. Friday after getting reports that a 10-story apartment building near the 3700 block of Northeast 166th Street had caught fire. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from an apartment on the sixth floor and evacuated everyone inside. The fire did not spread to nearby units.

At least three people were treated at the scene by paramedics but did not require transport to a nearby hospital. One resident told reporters that she noticed debris falling onto her balcony. She ran from her apartment and knocked on the doors of her neighbors to alert them before fleeing the building.

Sisters in Monday Fort Lauderdale Personal Watercraft Crash were on guided tour, FWC says.

The girls from a prominent family in the Queens, New York, Bukharian Jewish community who were involved in a deadly Fort Lauderdale personal watercraft crash were on a guided tour, according to authorities.

The two, 13-year-old Rachel Aliza Nisanov and her sister, 16-year-old Aviva Bracha Nisanov, were riding tandem on a personal watercraft — mostly known as a jet ski — in the Intracoastal Waterway Tuesday around 3:30 p.m. when they crashed into a concrete dock, according to The Miami Herald. The girls were near the 2800 block of Northeast 24^th Court.

After the crash, the two were rushed to Broward Health Medical Center where Rachel died from her injuries and Aviva remains in critical condition, the newspaper said. The parents of both girls — Rebbitzin Ora Nisanov and Rabbi Shlomo Nisanov — were on another personal watercraft in the area when the crash occurred. Their father leapt into the water in a desperate attempt to save them.

A child remains in critical condition after being pulled from a pool Monday in Pembroke Pines, officials say.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. at a home near Southwest 69th Avenue and 12th Street. When emergency responders arrived, they found a 3-year-old had been pulled from the pool in cardiac arrest, according to local media reporting.

The child remains in critical condition and no names have been released.
