Teen Lauded as Hero after Following Electric Shock Incident that Injured Five People at Indiana Swimming Pool

Five people, including three children and two adults, are recovering at a local hospital after electrocution at an Indiana swimming pool, according to reporting from national news outlets.

The incident happened over the weekend at a home in Logansport, Indiana, an almost two-hour drive from Indianapolis, when the swimmers “felt a vibration in the water.” That was when a father at the home called for the submersible pump to be shut off. At least two of the five people injured were unresponsive by the time emergency responders were called out to the home.

Officials told reporters that a pump wire near the pool’s ladder was pinched, allowing a protective cover to break that left the wire exposed. When it touched the water, it shocked whoever was in the pool at the time. One of the people who was injured, a 15-year-old boy, was able to jump out of the pool once the power was shut off and “save his dad and his sister and his sister’s friends’ lives.”

One dead, another injured after being electrocuted in jacuzzi at Mexican resort

Police in Mexico are investigating after a man died and a woman remains in serious condition from being electrocuted while inside a resort jacuzzi.

The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, according to reporting from CBS. The couple, identified as Jorge Guillen, 43, of El Paso, Texas, and 35-year-old Lizette Zambrano, were in the jacuzzi at the resort when there was a “possible electrical discharge.” Witnesses told the news outlet that they tried to jump in and save the couple who had both been rendered unconscious from the shock but they were zapped themselves when they tried to get in the water. A GoFundMe online fundraiser has been set up by friends of the family to help with funeral and medical expenses.

Zambrano remains in critical condition as of Thursday. Authorities are still trying to determine the cause of the electric failure and the investigation is ongoing.

Decorative Fountain Electrocution Tragedy Ends in $10 Million Settlement

Attorneys Ira Leesfield and Leesfield & partners attorneys represented the family of a young girl who died of electrocution while playing miniature golf. The 11-year-old’s golf ball ended up in a small water pond, when she reached inside the pond in an attempt to retrieve her ball, she immediately started to scream. Another guest jumped to her rescue and tried to grab her by the arm to pull her out but they too became injured as soon as they touched her.

The tragedy for the family was in fact an incomprehensible act of negligence committed by the owners and employees in charge of maintenance. Leesfield & Partners’s inspection and investigation revealed an improper replacement and installation of electrical breakers. State and local regulations mandate the use of ground fault interrupter (GFI) breakers for all water features like the pond in question. The inspection of the wiring and the electrical pump uncovered that non-GFI breakers were employed, which resulted in the water to become electrified, unbeknownst to all, including our fatally injured young client who was on vacation to celebrate her 11th birthday.

Within nine months, several inspections were conducted, lawsuit was filed, depositions were taken, and the case was settled for $10,000,000.

Fatal Electrocution of 7-year-old boy in North Miami likely caused by Code Violation

7-year-old Calder Sloan was in his swimming pool with Gary, the son of his nanny, who was watching Calder and his younger brother Caleb in their home in North Miami Beach when the unthinkable happened. Gary felt a shock and jumped out of the water yelling for Calder to do the same. Calder did not hear him as he was swimming under water at the time. A split second later, Calder was thrown out of the water. Neighbors rushed to the backyard, performed CPR while getting zapped themselves.

Calder was rushed to Jackson North Medical Center, but the young boy could not survive the jolt of electricity that went through his body. The Miami Herald reported power source could have been as much as 120 volts.

A photograph of the pool light showed rust and corrosion which further evidences an electrical circuit issue with the repairs. Calder’s father, Chris Sloan, told media that about nine months ago, he had an electrician fix the pool light which was not working properly.
