Police say they have found the boat they believe was involved in a hit-and-run boat crash on Biscayne Bay that killed a father and injured his son last week in Miami, according to local media.

Police did not name the owner of the boat or say who was operating the vessel the night of the deadly crash.

The incident happened on the night of Wednesday, March 25, while the father and son were on a 7-foot dinghy in the Meloy Channel near Indian Creek and Biscayne Point in Biscayne Bay. The two were hit by another vessel, which police later identified as a 20-30-foot boat that is dark blue with black bottom paint.

A construction worker died after a horrific fall onto Biscayne Boulevard on Monday, March 23, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

No name has been released as of Wednesday, March 25. Officials with Florida Highway Patrol told reporters that the incident happened just before 4 a.m. The man fell about 20 feet from the overpass on Interstate 395, landing on the street.

He died at the scene, and the area was closed as officials and emergency responders investigated the incident.

Police are citing carbon monoxide poisoning as a possible cause of death for four people, including two children, who were found inside a Marion County home Friday, Feb. 6.

The bodies were found Friday night after police were called out to the home on Banyan Track Way for a wellness check, according to reporting from NBC 6 South Florida.

No official cause of death has been released by the coroner’s office. Police did tell reporters that no foul play is suspected and that they believed the family had died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

A man has died after a wall at a Coconut Grove home under construction collapsed Monday morning.

The man, police told reporters with WSVN News, was pinned beneath the wall when it collapsed near the 2900 block of Southwest 22nd Avenue.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and no other injuries were reported.

A high schooler was on her way to her school’s bus stop when she was hit and killed by a 60-year-old driver this week in Ocala, Florida, according to police.

The Ocala Police Department announced the death of Forest High School Student Shannon Rushing via a news release Monday. She was 18.

“We are heartbroken with this news and are supporting the family and school community during this difficult time,” officials with the police department said.

Officers from the Port St. Lucie Police Department say that approximately 50 people came to town for a planned “street takeover” in the area, with some even traveling from Palm Beach and Tampa.

When the “lawless” brigade arrived, however, officers were ready to greet them.

The incident happened over the weekend after police discovered chatter online about a planned meetup near SW Village Parkway and SW Crosstown Parkway. Those who showed up included both minors and adults.

A small plane crash-landed in an emergency at a field near an elementary school in Miramar Wednesday, according to WSVN in Miami.

The incident happened just after 1 p.m. near Coconut Palm Elementary School. Two people were on board but were not injured. While the plane did sustain some damage, the school’s property did not.

The school did not go on lockdown when the aircraft – a Piper PA-28, a plane typically used for flight training, air taxi and personal use – landed.

A Miami detective shot a man at an apartment complex in West Miami-Dade County Wednesday night while conducting a “proactive detail” with a multi-agency task force, according to reporting from the Miami Herald.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. at 9599 Fontainebleau Blvd. Neither the man nor the detective, who investigates robberies, have been named as of Thursday.

The man is expected to be OK, a Miami Police Department spokesperson told the newspaper. The detective was not injured in the shooting.

A teacher with the Broward County School District is facing felony charges after allegedly soliciting an 11th grader, police say.

Lem McKinney, 40, of Broward County, was charged with a second-degree felony Tuesday after police said he solicited a student to engage in sexual conduct via social media. If convicted of the charge, penalties could include a fine of up to $10,000 and/or up to 15 years in prison.

McKinney was a social science teacher at J.P. Taravella High School, a public school located in Coral Springs.

Nine out of the 10 people involved in an SUV crash Sunday have died from their injuries, according to reporting from local news outlets. 

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday on Hatton Highway in Palm Beach County when a 2023 Ford Explorer hit a curve, went off the road into the grass and hit a guardrail before overturning into a canal. Four people were pronounced dead at the scene and six were taken to the hospital where five of them later died. The remaining survivor, a 26-year-old man, remains hospitalized as of Tuesday. 

Hatton Highway is a two-lane road that stretches across agricultural fields.
