Third Child Hospitalized in South Florida Dog Attack Incident. What to Know.

A child was taken to the hospital following a dog attack in South Florida, marking the third such incident in the last month.

The child, a 2-year-old boy, was attacked in his family’s Miami Gardens backyard Tuesday night. The dog at the center of the attack is the family’s pit bull, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

The boy was airlifted to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Florida, and was later transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital because of the “seriousness of his injuries,” the newspaper reported.

Four People Rescued from Water After Boat Capsized Over Labor Day Weekend in Miami, officials say.

At least four people were pulled from the water Sunday afternoon after their boat capsized near Haulover Inlet in Miami, according to reporting from local media.

All four were found sitting on the overturned hull of their 25-foot boat around 4 p.m. The boat was found nearly seven miles short of Haulover Inlet.

No Injuries were reported in this incident though Miami-Dade Fire Rescue teams have taken this as the opportunity to remind boaters to check the weather conditions before setting out on the water, according to reporting from The Miami Herald. Additionally, boaters should ensure they have a VHF radio on board that is turned to channel 16 — the quickest way to radio for help if in distress on the water.

Five People Aboard Boat Need Rescue off Key Biscayne. What to Know.

At least five people were rescued from a boat that caught fire Sunday morning off Key Biscayne, U.S. Coast Guard Officials said via social media.

The incident happened at 10 a.m. about eight miles off Key Biscayne. A passing Good Samaritan rescued the five people who were on board after the boat’s operator used a radio to report the fire. All five people involved were brought to shore.

No injuries were reported in this incident.

A 12-year-old maneuvering an all-terrain vehicle ran a stop sign, causing a deadly crash with a car in Louisiana, police say.

Emergency responders were called regarding the crash around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to reporting from The Miami Herald. The minor who was driving was accompanied by three passengers — ages 10, 6, and 4 — at the time of the incident. None of the children were wearing seatbelts, police said.

The 12-year-old allegedly ran a stop sign and collided with a car.

Elevators plunging several floors due to a malfunction have injured at least 12 people at The Miami VA Medical Center, an issue that has gone on for more than two years, the Miami Herald reported this week.

The elevators vacillate through the 12-story building, carrying nurses, patients and visitors alike.

In a phone interview with the newspaper, Bill Frogameni, who is a registered nurse at the veteran’s hospital and is the director of National Nurses United Miami VA chapter, said the hospital is meant o be a “place of healing.”

Florida Child, 11, Dies after Hit by Car While Walking from School Bus Stop, police say

A sixth grader who was it by a car while walking away from her school bus died Thursday from her injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 11-year-old girl was dropped off by her school bus around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon in Brooksville, a city in Hernando County about 50 miles north of Tampa, when a woman, 65, in a Toyota Corolla hit her. The child was walking north along the unpaved and unmarked road at the time of the crash, according to reporting from the Miami Herald. It was not immediately clear if the woman was speeding.

The child was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. She died Thursday.

Pregnant woman files lawsuit after she was exposed to Listeria, alleging Boar’s Head products are to blame.

A pregnant woman has filed a lawsuit after she claims she was hospitalized due to an illness brought on by Boar’s Head products following a recall of certain deli meats from the brand due to listeria.

The recall was issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Services after an investigation in Maryland by the Maryland Department of Health and the Baltimore City Health Department. Data collected by the Centers for Disease Control shows that at least 43 people have been affected by the outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes, a serious food infection contracted via food contamination. At least three people have died, according to the CDC.

Listeria can cause stillbirths and miscarriages in pregnant people. Other symptoms include fever, flu-like symptoms, a stiff neck, seizures, headaches, and or a loss of balance.

E-biker accused of leaving scene after crash that injured man on Central Florida beach, police say.

An E-bike rider was charged with a felony after an alleged hit-and-run crash with a man on a Central Florida beach, local police announced Wednesday.

The 37-year-old was charged Monday with felony leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and operating an electric bicycle in a manner likely to cause harm after the Memorial Day crash on Ormond Beach, about an hour outside of Orlando in Volusia County, Florida.

The incident took place around 5 p.m. on May 27 and, according to police, the man injured in the event had been playing soccer near where the E-bike rider was speeding. The area where he was riding is set aside for pedestrians. Following the crash, the man who was playing soccer was rushed to the hospital where it was determined he had three broken ribs. The E-biker had left before the police arrived.
