Driver in Fatal E-Motorcycle Crash in Miami Identified. What to Know.

The driver who police say crashed into an electric motorcycle carrying two minors, killing one of them, in Northwest Miami-Dade turned himself in, police say.

The incident occurred on Sept. 9 shortly before 9 p.m. when two minors, 10 and 15 years old, were heading south on Northwest Seventh Avenue, according to reporting from The Miami Herald. As they crossed Northwest 117^th Street, a vehicle at the intersection attempting to make a left turn to go west crashed into them. Both children were ejected from the motorcycle and the driver allegedly drove off, according to police.

Both children were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The 10-year-old tragically died on Sept. 10. As of Tuesday, Sept. 29, the newspaper reported, the boy remains in critical condition.

At Least Two Dead, Multiple Injured in String of Recent South Florida Crashes. What to Know.

At least two people have died, and several others were injured in multiple South Florida crashes over the weekend.

The first of the collisions occurred on Friday, Sept. 25, just before 8 a.m. The crash was located at North Collier Boulevard and East Elkam Circle. Officials told reporters with local media that a motorcyclist heading north on Collier Boulevard was in the left lane approaching East Elkman Circle when another vehicle, a Toyota Tacoma, was traveling south on the same road on the inside lane and was also approaching East Elkman Circle. The motorcyclist allegedly attempted to turn and was T-boned by the pickup truck, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

The man was identified as a 67-year-old from Marco Island. The driver of the Tacoma was identified as a 33-year-old from Naples. The motorcyclist was taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, where he died from his injuries.

One Person Critically Injured in Rickenbacker Causeway Bicycle Accident. What to Know About Accidents of this Kind in South Florida.

Then man who was critically injured in a Rickenbacker Causeway bicycle accident last month has been identified as a well-known local orthopedic surgeon.

The incident happened on Saturday, Aug. 29, around 8:30 a.m. when 63-year-old Dr. Gilbert Beauperthuy-Rojas was hit by a driver as he pedaled along the Causeway — a six-laned toll road that sees roughly half a million cyclists and about 10 million vehicles annually, according to reporting from The Miami Herald and Florida International University’s Caplin News. He was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police in their investigation. Additional information, including the circumstances surrounding the crash have yet to be released.

From 2020 to 2021, the agency found that there was a 66% increase in injuries as the popularity of these devices continued to soar.

Third Child Hospitalized in South Florida Dog Attack Incident. What to Know.

A child was taken to the hospital following a dog attack in South Florida, marking the third such incident in the last month.

The child, a 2-year-old boy, was attacked in his family’s Miami Gardens backyard Tuesday night. The dog at the center of the attack is the family’s pit bull, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

The boy was airlifted to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Florida, and was later transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital because of the “seriousness of his injuries,” the newspaper reported.

Two Infants Attacked by Dogs in Separate, Back-to-Back South Florida Incidents. What to Know.

Two 1-year-olds were taken to the hospital for treatment stemming from two separate dog attack incidents in South Florida over the weekend, according to local media reporting.

The first attack happened in Hollandale Beach and involved a child who was with at least one adult when the incident took place at the 400 block of Southeast Ninth Street, reporters with The Miami Herald wrote. The child’s mother was “changing the baby” when they were attacked. The mother was able to get the child away from the dog.

The extent of that 1-year-old’s injuries were not immediately available Monday. It is unclear whether the mother suffered any injuries while rescuing her child. The animal is described in articles from local media as “the family dog.” The child was taken to the hospital by a Good Samaritan, according to reporting from NBC6 South Florida. The child’s father told reporters that the dog, an American Bully, “never showed signs of aggression” before this incident. The animal was surrendered to Broward County Animal Care and Control and was euthanized, NBC6 South Florida reported.

Family’s Call to Action After Uber Driver Injured in ‘Senseless Attack’ in Miami. What to Know.

The family of a 61-year-old Uber driver who was suddenly attacked by a passenger during a ride has called for the company to do more to protect drivers.

“Please share this,” Nelson Carinao’s son wrote on his social media page following the attack. “I don’t wish this upon any parent. It is sickening that this kind of behavior was inflicted on my own father.”

The incident happened on Friday, Jan. 2 when Carinao picked up 19-year-old Isaiah Norton for a drive meant to go through Interstate 95 from Broward to Miami-Dade County, according to reporting from WSVN. After several minutes in the car, dashcam footage shows Norton repeatedly punching Carinao as he drove.

Woman Dead After Dog Attack in Miami. What to Know.

Police continue to investigate after an elderly woman was found dead Monday morning following a dog attack a dog attack in Miami Gardens, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

Investigators have not released whether or not the woman was mauled by one animal or several and no name has been released as of Wednesday morning. The woman was found unresponsive by police around 7:40 a.m. with multiple dog bites in a lot at the 1400 block of Northwest 196^th Terrace.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
