At least two families tragically lost their homes following separate fires in Vero and Boynton Beaches over the weekend, according to local media.
The first fire broke out Saturday at a home near 21st Court in Vero Beach. At least seven people were displaced after the fire engulfed their home. Of the seven people, five are children.
Sunday morning in Boynton Beach, a family of three and their dogs were displaced after a fire started near NW 10th Court, a home in the Skylake neighborhood.
One person died and another was injured after the e-bike they were riding on Tuesday morning was hit by a car on the Julia Tuttle Causeway.
The crash happened around 3:05 a.m., just before entering Miami Beach near the Alton Road exit. A white Ford sedan crashed into an e-bike carrying two people, shutting down the eastbound lane for hours and causing traffic delays.
Both passengers on the e-bike were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. At least one person died and the other is in critical condition, according to local media.
Firefighters put out a blaze at a high-rise in North Miami Beach that caught fire overnight Saturday, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.
Emergency responders were called out to the area just before 7 p.m. Friday after getting reports that a 10-story apartment building near the 3700 block of Northeast 166th Street had caught fire. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from an apartment on the sixth floor and evacuated everyone inside. The fire did not spread to nearby units.
At least three people were treated at the scene by paramedics but did not require transport to a nearby hospital. One resident told reporters that she noticed debris falling onto her balcony. She ran from her apartment and knocked on the doors of her neighbors to alert them before fleeing the building.
A minor is facing criminal charges after a 54-year-old bicyclist was killed in a crash on Friday night, according to Miami police.
The crash happened on the Rickenbacker Causeway, the bridge connecting the island of Key Biscayne to the mainland, around 8:20 p.m. The bicyclist who was killed was identified in reporting from The Miami Herald as Fabian Moses.
Both Moses and the minor were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment. Moses later died from his injuries, and the minor was treated for facial injuries.
Officers from the Port St. Lucie Police Department say that approximately 50 people came to town for a planned “street takeover” in the area, with some even traveling from Palm Beach and Tampa.
When the “lawless” brigade arrived, however, officers were ready to greet them.
The incident happened over the weekend after police discovered chatter online about a planned meetup near SW Village Parkway and SW Crosstown Parkway. Those who showed up included both minors and adults.

The University of Miami recently announced a plan to tighten restrictions on personal mobility devices on campus. E-bikes and E-scooters will be banned from sidewalks, breezeways, the Foote Green and other pedestrian areas starting Tuesday, Aug. 19. Undergraduate classes for the fall 2025 semester are scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 18, according to the university’s online calendar.

At least two people were injured after a pontoon boat crashed into a wooden dock on the Intracoastal Waterway near Beverly Beach in Flagler County on the Fourth of July.
Emergency responders were called around 5:18 p.m. and rescued both people from the water, according to reporting from local media. At least one person had life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital in Daytona Beach. The second person was in “stable condition” and was taken to AdventHealth Palm Coast.
The boat was severely damaged in the crash as were parts of the wooden dock.
At least four boats at the Grove Isle marina in Coconut Grove were damaged after a fire broke out Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called out to the area around 7:30 a.m. after two boats docked at the marina burst into flames, according to reporting from the Miami Herald. The fire was contained within 10 minutes and no injuries were reported.
Two other boats had exterior heat damage, but their interior were not damaged, according to reporting.
Investigators have revealed the possible cause for a Memorial Day boat explosion on the Intracoastal waters near the Lauderdale Yacht Club that killed one person — the igniting of fuel vapors.
The possible cause was revealed to reporters with WSVN by investigators in an article relaying the recorded 911 calls from panicked witnesses on the day of the explosion.
“A boat just, like, exploded, I don’t know, people just flew off the boat,” one caller told emergency responders. “Everyone’s jumping in the water. I’m watching a boat that I think just exploded, or, I think just caught on fire. I’m not sure what’s going on, there was a loud explosion, now a couple people are back on the boat.”
Friday morning fire at Miami lumber warehouse injured at least one firefighter as emergency responders battled the flames.
Firefighters were called out to the Little River Building Home Supply, 7737 NE Second Ave., at around 6:06 a.m. There was heavy smoke coming from the building.
No one was inside the building when the fire broke out, however, as firefighters continued to battle the flames, they were forced to evacuate due to structural concerns.
