Drivers on the Turnpike experienced significant delays over the weekend due to closures following a crash that caused serious injuries to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputy.

All northbound lanes on the Turnpike were closed from Northwest 41st Street to 74th Street for at least seven hours after the crash, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. Saturday after the deputy was called out to assist Florida Highway Patrol. The deputy was stopped on the Turnpike near Northwest 74th Street when he was hit by another car.

Authorities are investigating after a fire broke out Monday night at a junkyard in Opa-Locka, according to reporting from local media.

Firefighters were called out to the property near Northwest 32nd Avenue and 135th Street around 10:20 p.m. Monday.

Heavy smoke and flames billowed out from a pile of debris to the roof of what appeared to be a warehouse on the property. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this incident.

A Florida tow truck driver faces criminal charges after authorities say he hooked a car up to his vehicle and drove away while a 4-year-old girl was still inside, according to reporting from local media.

The 34-year-old tow truck driver was charged with one count of child neglect without great bodily harm, a third-degree felony, following the incident.

The incident happened Sunday while the car was parked in front of a restaurant. The owner of the car had been inside the restaurant for about two minutes when he realized his vehicle, with his young daughter still inside, was being towed, according to local media.

A fire broke out after an e-bike exploded, severely burning a home in Northwest Miami-Dade over the weekend, according to reporting from WSVN.

Josue Paz, the son of the homeowner, told reporters that he was asleep when an e-bike, which was given to him as a birthday gift, exploded around 10 :30 p.m. Saturday.

Paz said he jumped out of bed and rushed to get his family out of the house.

A woman was in for a shock this week when the vehicle she was in was hit by a plane attempting a crash landing.

The incident happened around 5:45 p.m. in Brevard County on Monday, Dec. 8, on I-95, according to reporting from WSVN. The 27-year-old pilot was attempting to make an emergency landing following an engine failure.

Miraculously, the 57-year-old driver was taken to the hospital with only minor injuries. Onlookers described the car, a 2023 Toyota Camry, as “crushed” except for the driver’s side.

A woman in Los Angeles was surprised when she and her daughter ordered a Waymo driverless taxi in the Westlake District and found a man hiding in the backseat.

The video, which has gone viral online with millions of views, shows the woman immediately questioning the man who claims that “the people” put him in the trunk.

Skeptical viewers questioned why the vehicles’ many cameras did not flag the man hiding inside the vehicle.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York will allegedly raise more than $300 million to compensate over 1,300 people who said they suffered sexual abuse as children at the hands of priests and church staff, according to a letter published this week.

The letter, which was published on Monday, Dec. 8, was penned by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the archbishop of New York. In it, he said that the archdiocese has made a “series of very difficult financial decisions” to raise funds for the settlement.

Some of these decisions included the sale of various properties, layoffs, and a 10% reduction in their operating budget. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York is the second-largest diocese in the U.S. behind the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

At least 14 suspected and confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ disease allegedly stemming from the same Orlando gym have been reported to the Florida Department of Health, according to local media.

While the Florida Department of Health has not released the name of the gym at the center of the outbreak, local media has identified the location as Crunch Fitness in Ocoee.

Sen. Carlos Guillermo Smith told reporters that the gym’s spa was closed due to violations found following a regulatory inspection. The inspection included testing disinfectant levels, temperature and water pH levels, according to local media.

A man in a wheelchair died Thursday morning in Florida City after being hit by a tanker truck, according to reporting from Local 10 News.

The name of the man has not been released, but authorities told reporters that the pedestrian was an elderly man.

The incident happened around 4:37 a.m. when the driver of the tanker truck was headed down North Krome Avenue. The driver allegedly told police that he did not see the man.

A man who was allegedly employed by a local church as a driver is now facing charges after police say he sent sexually explicit messages to a 13-year-old girl he drove to and from church classes.

Elvin Daniel Ortiz Cruz, 23, was charged with promoting sexual performance by a child, electronic transmission harmful to a minor, and soliciting and luring a child to engage in sex, according to reporting from Channel 7 News. Ortiz Cruz was allegedly working as a van driver for the Ministerio Internacional Jesús El Salvador on Northwest 23rd Street. Ortiz Cruz reportedly began transporting the child to and from church classes in 2024 and police believe there may be more victims.

After discovering the messages on her daughter’s phone the girl’s mother reported them to police who began investigating. As a part of the investigation, detectives from the Miami Police Department and the Special Victims and Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) units launched an undercover operation and pretended to be the victim, exchanging messages with Ortiz Cruz, according to local media.
