Two Dead in Head-On Collision in Pompano Beach Monday. How many crashes has Florida had in 2025?

At least two people have died after a head-on crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Pompano Beach Monday morning, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

The crash happened around 12:50 a.m. near Atlantic Boulevard and involved a 2004 Acura TL sedan and a 2019 Mercedes A220 sedan, officials with Florida Highway Patrol told the newspaper. The Acura was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the turnpike when it collided with the Mercedes

After the collision, the Acura hit a concrete barrier and burst into flames.

Both drivers were killed as a result. No names have been released as of Tuesday, however, the Acura driver was described as a Jensen Beach man and the driver of the Mercedes was a 19-year-old from Oviedo, Florida.

There was one other person in the Mercedes, a 22-year-old from Key West. That passenger was transported to North Broward Medical Center with serious injuries.

This crash is being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol. Additional details were not immediately available.

Leesfield & Partners

Leesfield & Partners is a personal injury law firm with offices in Miami, Key West and Orlando with nearly 50 years of experience representing crash victims and their grieving families. Whether due to vehicle malfunction, poor road design, negligent and/or reckless drivers, or because of intoxicated individuals, our skilled trial attorneys work diligently to secure the best possible outcome for every client.

If you are involved in a crash, it is important to seek medical attention immediately and ensure that you and your passengers are safe. If you are able to, it is important to document as much as you can on the day of the accident. This includes photographing the cars involved in the incident, photographing injuries and collecting information such as what color the traffic light was at the time of the incident (if applicable) and recording an account of what occurred.

Be advised that your safety is paramount when collecting this evidence.

Plaintiffs should seek medical attention straight away after being involved in a motor vehicle accident and collect copies of any medical records and doctor’s notes from these visits. If medical treatment is delayed, defendants may claim that a different incident caused a plaintiff’s injuries rather than the crash.

Finding a personal injury lawyer who will take on your case with the necessary diligence, tenacity and understanding of the law that is necessary should not be a hasty process. Get recommendations from friends and family and do your research.

Plaintiffs must notify both their own insurer and the at-fault party’s insurer. Their attorney will then send a demand letter outlining the defendant’s liability and the plaintiff’s injuries. The plaintiff’s attorney will engage in negotiations with the insurer or defense counsel. These discussions may lead to a settlement, allowing the plaintiff to resolve the claim without filing a formal lawsuit. If not, however, a lawsuit will be filed.

If a resolution cannot be reached through settlement, the plaintiff’s attorney will file a complaint in civil court. Discovery, depositions and pre-trial motions will follow as the lawsuit continues. Depending on the specifics of the case, it may be resolved at trial or through a later settlement.

Leesfield & Partners has secured record verdicts and settlements for clients throughout Florida, earning it a reputation as one of the top personal injury law firms in the state. In a record case, Leesfield & Partners represented a family who lost their daughter and whose son suffered life-altering injuries as the result of a wrong-way drunk driver in Miami.

In that case, the driver had been speeding down the wrong side of I-95 after having been overserved at a popular Miami bar. The family, including their 21-year-old son, was on their way to drop off their daughter at their airport so that she could board a flight to travel to her medical school’s orientation. She was killed in the head-on collision. She was 23.

The family’s son suffered catastrophic brain and orthopedic injuries as a result of the crash and was left needing a wheelchair and round-the-clock care. At trial, the jury awarded over $95 million to the family — awarding $57 million to the son and $38 million to the parents. This devastating case marks the largest verdict in a motor vehicle accident case in the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida and is the fourth-largest of its kind in state history.

Previous Cases

Ira Leesfield, the firm’s Founder and Managing Partner, obtained a $19.8 million verdict against Honda in a design defect case involving a motorcycle kickstand. In that case, our client was in the middle of a ride when the kickstand deployed and caused his motorcycle to spin out of control. He was paralyzed as the result of this violent collision.

This was the start of litigation against multiple manufacturers involving the same dangerous design defect handled by Mr. Leesfield on behalf of injured clients.

A $15.4 million recovery was obtained for a Fort Lauderdale handyman who was injured as a backseat passenger in a high-speed motor vehicle accident. The man in that case was in a car that was stopped at a drawbridge when another car hit it from behind, causing skull fractures, frontal lobe brain damage and facial fractures.

As a result of his injuries, our client developed a seizure disorder that could not be controlled by medication. This ended the then-22-year-old’s career as a handyman in the area.

Leesfield & Partners previously represented the families of three teenage girls after they were struck by a commercial truck driver making an illegal U-turn on the turnpike. The girls in that case were on their way to the library when the driver turned directly into their path. Tragically, one girl was killed and the other two sustained serious injuries.

Our attorneys worked tirelessly to settle the case for over $8.6 million for the families. The firm also obtained an over $7.6 million arbitration award for the family who lost their daughter.

In the case of a woman who was walking back to her office following a midday break, Mr. Shapiro secured the maximum recoverable amount set forth in the defendant’s insurance policy limits. Injuries to our client included skull fractures and brain hemorrhages in addition to injuries to her left leg.

A $6 million settlement was secured for the client in that case.
