Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Underage Girls Previously Taught at a Miami School. What to Know.

A former substitute teacher accused of using social media to meet girls as young as 12 years old for sex agreed to a plea deal Monday, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

Enreeka Nalasco, 35, was sentenced to 25 years in prison and 20 years’ probation Monday on two counts of human trafficking and three counts of lewd and lascivious conduct with girls under 16. Nalasco is also said to have given the pre-teens vapes and marijuana “in exchange for sex,” according to the article.

The two children involved in the case were students at Miami Beach’s Nautilus Middle School in 2022, when the investigation began. Nalasco had previously worked as a substitute teacher at Miami Beach Senior High School, The Herald reported.

In March 2022, several girls who were students at Nautilus were found on campus with drugs and vapes. When questioned, the girls said they got the items from a man they met online who went by “Swaggy.” The girls said that Swaggy gave them the drugs for “sexual favors” and “kisses.”

These students ranged in age from 11 to 14 years old.

One student met Nalasco in a gas station parking lot for a vape cigarette and, when they met again, he forced her into the car and sexually assaulted her, The Herald reported.

As part of his plea deal, Nalasco can no longer use social media, is prohibited from contacting any of his victims and will have his name entered in the Sexual Offender and Predator System.

Sexual abuse is a pressing crisis that affects hundreds of people in the United States daily. In data from the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted every 68 seconds. Every nine minutes, that person is a child.

With these shocking numbers, it is perhaps even more jarring to discover that only 25 out of every 1,000 perpetrators of sexual abuse will be convicted for these crimes.

In over 48 years of personal injury practice in Florida, Leesfield & Partners understands the ever-present need to protect the most vulnerable among us. Schools, churches, athletic programs and summer camps should all be havens in which children can learn, create and be carefree. This law firm has found, however, that is not always the case.

Every eight out of 10 perpetrators are committed by someone that is known to the victim, according to RAINN. These individuals can be anyone from family members, friends, teachers or coaches. Our skilled trial attorneys have seen this abuse of trust in the cases they have handled over the years, which have resulted in verdicts and settlements against schools, boy scouts, churches, after-school-care programs and summer camps. In decades spent cultivating cutting-edge trial techniques, our attorneys have handled every case with the respect, dignity and diligence that is owed. Leesfield & Partners is committed to securing the best possible outcome for every client who trusts our attorneys with their sensitive case.

Previous Cases

Leesfield & Partners has represented victims and survivors in numerous cases involving sexual abuse and the negligence of corporations, management companies, and other entities responsible for ensuring their safety. One such case was handled by Partner Justin B. Shapiro and resulted in a $16 million settlement for a couple who were brutally attacked while staying as guests at a hotel. The assailant in that case viciously beat both victims. He also raped and sexually assaulted the wife.

Despite the hotel’s known history of violent incidents, management had disregarded repeated recommendations from both law enforcement and a private security firm to employ armed security personnel.

On the day of the incident, the attacker gained unrestricted access to the hotel due to the absence of basic safety measures, such as functioning locks or keycard-secured elevators. He went up to the couple’s floor, where he launched a violent assault—first attacking the husband, then brutally beating and raping the wife. Disturbingly, hotel staff and on-site security witnessed parts of the attack but failed to intervene.

Previously, the firm secured $8.6 million for a camper at a well-known Florida summer camp. A camp counselor in that case was later found to have been sexually abusing our minor client. The camp ignored clear warning signs, to the detriment of the child they were entrusted to protect.

Recently, the firm obtained a confidential settlement on behalf of four clients who were sexually abused as children by the same church official while they attended parochial schools.

The firm obtained a confidential settlement for a child who was flying as an unaccompanied minor on an airline and meant to be under the care of flight officials. During the flight, the child was sexually abused by another passenger.

Leesfield & Partners handled a case in which a prestigious Florida high school was made to pay multi-million-dollar reparations after a teacher sexually abused multiple students.

The firm represented a Canadian cruise ship passenger who was attacked and raped in her private cabin by a crew member. This crew member used his employee keycard to enter the woman’s room. A multi-million-dollar recover was obtained for the woman in that case.

A store clerk was awarded $1.13 million in a negligent security case at a shopping mall following an incident in which the clerk was robbed and brutally raped.

A hotel maid was raped while on the job by a man who was not a guest who roamed the property without being questioned. Leesfield & Partners secured a $1 million settlement for the woman.
