Detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office are looking for the driver of an SUV they believe was involved in a crash that injured a motorcyclist in Miami, according to reporting from local media.

The crash happened on Jan. 6 around 11 p.m. near Northwest 54th Street and 22nd Avenue. Police say that the vehicle, a red 2017 GMC Yukon Denali, was traveling in the opposite direction of a motorcycle when the two crashed.

She was taken by emergency responders to a local hospital for injuries and remained in stable condition as of Monday afternoon, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

Police are investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl who allegedly wandered into the backyard pool of a home and drowned over the weekend.

Police were called shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 to a home near Southwest 132nd Avenue and 119th Street, according to reporting from The Miami Herald. The girl, who has not been named publicly by authorities as of Monday, Jan. 12, was staying at the home with her family and four other siblings.

“This is a very sad and tragic event,” a police spokesperson told reporters. “We are asking the community to pray for this family.”

The family of a 14-year-old boy who sustained a head injury after a crash on his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on New Year’s Day does not expect him to return to school this year, according to reporting from WSVN.

The incident happened just after 6 p.m. near Southwest 220th Street and 118th Avenue involving the boy, identified as Jamari Charles, and another vehicle. Jamari was gifted the four-wheeler for Christmas and was allegedly not wearing a helmet at the time, WSVN reported. He was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in “critical but stable condition.”

The driver involved was not injured.

The family of a 61-year-old Uber driver who was suddenly attacked by a passenger during a ride has called for the company to do more to protect drivers.

“Please share this,” Nelson Carinao’s son wrote on his social media page following the attack. “I don’t wish this upon any parent. It is sickening that this kind of behavior was inflicted on my own father.”

The incident happened on Friday, Jan. 2 when Carinao picked up 19-year-old Isaiah Norton for a drive meant to go through Interstate 95 from Broward to Miami-Dade County, according to reporting from WSVN. After several minutes in the car, dashcam footage shows Norton repeatedly punching Carinao as he drove.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office issued a recent warning, urging people across South Florida against celebratory gun fire this New Year’s Eve, according to reporting from WSVN.

Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz, along with others from the sheriff’s office, discussed the dangers at a recent press conference.

“We have felt this pain here at home, during the most recent New Year’s Eve celebration,” she said. “Yaneliz Munguia, a little girl of 10 years of age, lost her life in Northwest Miami-Dade.”

A bicyclist was left critically injured after being hit by a car Sunday morning, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

The incident happened around 9 a.m. near the 3000 block of Southwest First Avenue near Coconut Grove. The bicyclist, a 53-year-old man, had head injuries and was taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Additional details were not immediately available Monday morning.

Drivers on the Turnpike experienced significant delays over the weekend due to closures following a crash that caused serious injuries to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputy.

All northbound lanes on the Turnpike were closed from Northwest 41st Street to 74th Street for at least seven hours after the crash, according to reporting from The Miami Herald.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. Saturday after the deputy was called out to assist Florida Highway Patrol. The deputy was stopped on the Turnpike near Northwest 74th Street when he was hit by another car.

Authorities are investigating after a fire broke out Monday night at a junkyard in Opa-Locka, according to reporting from local media.

Firefighters were called out to the property near Northwest 32nd Avenue and 135th Street around 10:20 p.m. Monday.

Heavy smoke and flames billowed out from a pile of debris to the roof of what appeared to be a warehouse on the property. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this incident.

A Florida tow truck driver faces criminal charges after authorities say he hooked a car up to his vehicle and drove away while a 4-year-old girl was still inside, according to reporting from local media.

The 34-year-old tow truck driver was charged with one count of child neglect without great bodily harm, a third-degree felony, following the incident.

The incident happened Sunday while the car was parked in front of a restaurant. The owner of the car had been inside the restaurant for about two minutes when he realized his vehicle, with his young daughter still inside, was being towed, according to local media.

A fire broke out after an e-bike exploded, severely burning a home in Northwest Miami-Dade over the weekend, according to reporting from WSVN.

Josue Paz, the son of the homeowner, told reporters that he was asleep when an e-bike, which was given to him as a birthday gift, exploded around 10 :30 p.m. Saturday.

Paz said he jumped out of bed and rushed to get his family out of the house.
